The month of November is dedicated to creating awareness for Alzheimer’s, which is the most common form of dementia. Dementia is a general term for memory loss and affects the part of the brain that controls thoughts and language that are serious enough to interfere with daily life.
Here are 10 signs of Alzheimer’s:
- Memory loss that disrupts daily life
- Challenges in planning or solving problems
- Difficulty completing familiar tasks
- Confusion with time or place
- Trouble understanding visual images and spatial relationships
- New problems with words in speaking or writing
- Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps
- Decreased or poor judgment
- Withdrawal from work or social activities
- Changes in mood and personality
Alzheimer’s disease accounts for 50 to 80 percent of dementia cases and is commonly thought to be a normal part of the aging process. However, that is inaccurate. Alzheimer’s has no cure currently, but treatments for symptoms are available as research continues.
